Skyrim's Nord Colors For Syntax Highlighting and UI Components
Nord is a set of colors for syntax highlighting and UI components designed for the clean and uncluttered look of programming languages. Its colors are inspired by the beauty of arctic ice and the Aurora Borealis.
In the fictional world of Skyrim, Nords are a warrior race whose culture emphasizes honor and glory in a societal structure that values family honor and martial prowess above all else. They are also renowned for their combat skills, particularly their proficiency with two-handed weapons, and their formidable battle cry that can demoralize enemies. The Nords favor brute strength over wit, and are suspicious of magic.
Nords have long been a staple in fantasy literature, including J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen, and George R.R. Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice. The Nords' distinct appearance and mythos have also made them popular in video games, with their distinctive, angular faces and piercing blue eyes.
The Nords of Skyrim are a hardy and resilient people, molded by the harsh conditions of their northern homeland. Their homeland, the Old Kingdom, is a land of volcanic tundras, dense forests, and towering mountain ranges. Key cities like Whiterun, Windhelm, and Solitude serve as cultural centers where nord traditions and power dynamics play out.
Historically, the Nordics forged their own distinct identity separate from Nirn's other civilizations, with their language, customs, and folk architecture differing from those of mainstream Europe. The nordic word Atmora (and the etymology of the country's name) has been interpreted as meaning "Elder Wood."
In modern times, Nords are largely united by their common heritage and a shared history of hardship and victory. Although Nords are primarily warriors, many Nords pursue other careers, contributing to their communities in other ways, such as craftsman or farmer. Their culture places a high value on personal and familial honor, and they are suspicious of outsiders.
Aside from their fighting skills, the Nords' natural resistance to frost and ability to regenerate health quickly make them an excellent choice for new players to Skyrim. They tend to favor the good alignment and are hardworking, but they take comfort in their traditions and distrust outsiders. They are tall, fair-skinned, blond, and bearded.
The Nords speak Tamrielic, and can understand the other dialects of the Elder Scrolls language, as well as Common. They can pick up the languages of other races fairly easily, if they wish. They can also choose to learn another language, depending on what their GM and player agree is appropriate for them. Nords can read and write, as well as speak Cyrodilic and a secondary language that they and their GM have chosen together. Their favored skill is Combat, which gives them bonuses to both damage and healing, as well as a bonus to magical resistance. They have a strong focus on melee, so they will likely prefer the sword over the staff, but can still be used effectively in magic-based encounters.
